Where DocSpring is the better choice
Genuinely — if any of these is your requirement, stop reading and use them.
- A published 99.99% uptime SLA on Professional and Business. Doc2api offers no SLA, and if a contractual uptime guarantee is a procurement requirement, that decides it.
- Longer in market, with a correspondingly longer public track record.
- A 14-day trial of any plan, so you can evaluate the paid features rather than a free tier's subset.
- Unlimited test PDFs, where ours are capped at 100 a month. Past that, previews start counting against the plan; theirs never do.
- Unlimited templates on every tier. Our Free plan stops at three and Starter at fifteen; unlimited starts at Pro. If you have a lot of forms and low volume through each, that ordering favours them.

Fill a PDF you were given
Upload a fillable PDF and its fields come back as a typed JSON schema. Flat or scanned, you draw named boxes on the page instead. The output is that exact document.

Design one from nothing
A drag-and-drop designer: tables with repeating rows, bar/line/pie charts, barcodes and QR codes, signature blocks, running headers and footers, watermarks, page numbers, a brand colour and type scale, elements that appear only when an expression is true, and six page sizes from A5 to Tabloid. No markup required.

An HTML block takes your markup — headings, tables, lists, images, links and inline styles — and renders it into the document, script-free and parsed against an allow-list. Paste what you already generate instead of rebuilding it.
Where Doc2api differs
You can try it without an account
Upload a real PDF here and you get the real editor, a real API key and real (watermarked) documents back, with no signup. DocSpring's trial needs an account first. If you are evaluating four tools in an afternoon, that is the difference between being tried and being skipped.
Roughly a fifth of the price at the same volume
1,000 documents a month is $99 on DocSpring's Professional plan and $20 on Doc2api's Starter. The gap widens with volume: 100,000 documents a month is $200 here. On DocSpring's published Business plan the same volume is $249 plus 95,000 overage PDFs at $0.05 — about $5,000 a month. They may of course quote differently at that scale; this is their list price, not a quote.
The form can be embedded for your own users to fill
Doc2api's SDK renders the actual PDF in your app, with draw-to-sign signature fields and photo capture, and posts the finished document to your webhook. That is a different job from generating a PDF server-side from data you already hold.
It is not only a form filler
The same account designs documents from scratch — tables, charts, barcodes, conditional sections, running headers — and will render your own HTML if you would rather paste markup than assemble blocks. So the document you were given and the document you invent both come out of one endpoint.
Test fills are free here too
Send “preview”: true and the first 100 fills a month cost nothing on any plan, including Free — the real document, no watermark, no webhooks fired. That closes most of the gap with their unlimited test PDFs, and the dashboard’s own test form uses it.
Twenty times the volume at the entry tier
Their cheapest paid plan is $49 a month for 50 PDFs. Ours is $20 for 1,000. That is 20x the allowance for 40% of the price, and 50 documents a month is what our free plan gives away.
A free tier that does not expire
50 documents a month, three templates, indefinitely. DocSpring publishes a 14-day trial rather than a permanent free plan, so a low-volume project has somewhere to sit here.
